| Here's 1st Responder correspondent Todd Hollritt with his good friend from Dublin at the parade, he's great company and a wealth of knowledge all things Irish. And like they say... "Guinness is Good for You" Yes, antioxidant compounds in Guinness are similar to those found in certain fruits and vegetables!

BELMAR, NJ — On Sunday March 7, 2010 the 37th annual Belmar and Lake Como St. Patrick's Day parade took place down the Jersey shore.
With crystal clear sunshine and temperature’s warming into the mid 50s thousands of people flocked to the popular surf side community, some estimates said well over 150,000! There was a bit of Irish spring was in air. The parade route up Main Street from Lake Como was five to seven deep with attendees decked out in every shade of green to watch the parade, one that is filled with plenty of fire equipment and departments from the surrounding communities. Fire engines with shimmering shamrocks, Irish flags and streamers, and the sound of bagpipes and drums filled the air. The green seen in abundance signifies not only Irish heritage but also heralds the approach of spring.
The parade kicked off with the Union County Police and Fire Pipe and Drums, which was followed by the Southern Monmouth County Firefighters and numerous fire companies throughout the state, as well as members of the New York City Fire Department. Around nineteen participating pipe and drum bands marched in the parade this year, including local police and fire and the Newark Firefighters’ Pipe band, they all draw the biggest cheers and applause.
A special ceremony at the bandstand at Ninth Avenue and Main Street was held, it was a memorial service that has been part of the parade since the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
This year's Grand Marshal was Charles Flynn of Wall and the Deputy Grand Marshal was Janet McGrath of Belmar. They led more than 200 groups and organizations was participated in the nearly four-hour-long parade. This included more than 1,500 members of the Order of the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh chapters from Belmar, Old Bridge and West Orange.
Enjoy a sampling of some of the many fire departments who attended.
