BERNARDS TOWNSHIP, NJ - On Saturday evening, March 13, 2010 the Liberty Corner Fire Company was dispatched to a reported car with three occupants into the pond at Pleasant Valley Park in Bernards Township.
Upon arrival at the scene, Chief Pete Aprahamian determined that the auto was not in the pond, but was disabled in a fast-running stream. In that park, the main road goes across a stream bed which normally runs as a trickle.
Chief Aprahamian ordered that Liberty Corner's new Pierce 100 foot tower ladder be the first due.
Upon arrival, the tower ladder, driven by Firefighter Chuck Pisano, was backed up to the stream, and two firefighters, including Firefighter Mike LaCosta, positioned the bucket at the car and extricated the teenage driver and two younger children through a window, after the occupants donned life jackets.
Other than the children being frightened and cold, there were no injuries. The scene was then turned over to the Bernards Township Police Department.
